The HCG Diet is a three-week diet program that combines a daily dose of HCG with a very low calorie diet for extreme rapid weight loss.
Some people lose as much as one pound per day and most people lose over 15 pounds during this three-week diet.
After the HCG Diet you will go on a higher calorie Maintenance Diet for an additional three weeks to help you transition to a long-term weight management solution.
The HCG Diet is controversial among doctors and nutritionists.
It’s controversial because it works.

Everyone agrees that the weight comes off very fast. The controversy over the HCG Diet focuses on the very low calorie diet. It’s 500 calories a day for three weeks. That’s half of the lowest recommendation you would ever get from a nutritionist. Under normal circumstances this level of calories would leave most of us hungry and tired. Your body would burn off fat and little bit of muscle mass to make up the difference, but it would be difficult to stay on such a diet due to intense food cravings.
With daily doses of HCG, however, the cravings and fatigue aren’t there. It defies logic. I didn’t want to believe it. As a physician, I was extremely skeptical and the few small studies I found claimed that HCG was working as a placebo. As a fitness enthusiast, it goes against the common wisdom of avoiding a starvation mode metabolic slowdown.
Sixteen pounds in 23 days. No fatigue. No cravings.
But it works. According to Dr. Pelosi III:
“I saw it firsthand. Three times. Three people I trust. It worked perfectly every time. My wife went first. She asked me to put her on the HCG Diet because a close friend had raved about it on Facebook. I told her she was crazy, but I put her on it anyway “just to prove that it’s a starvation diet. Period.”
She made me eat my words. Sixteen pounds in 23 days. No fatigue. No cravings. What’s more, she lost the most from her trouble spots – hips and thighs. It’s never happened like that with any other diet for her. Three months later, she not only kept it off, but lost an additional 10 lbs on a maintenance diet and is sporting incredible curves and muscle definition.
I then prescribed it to two of our friends, a husband and wife in their 50s, slightly overweight, slightly active lifestyle. The results were equally impressive. They each completed 2 rounds. She lost 25 pounds. He lost 35.”
The HCG Diet Program Overview
The HCG Diet at Pelosi Medical Center is a medically supervised diet. It begins with a consultation to establish your weight loss goals, your current health status, and to determine if this plan would be a reasonable option for you. We’ll determine if you need any special tests.
You will undergo a complete body fat analysis to determine your percent body fat, your lean muscle mass and your overall caloric needs.
We will provide you with HCG injections, the HCG Diet plan, and the Maintenance Diet plan.
Followup visits and weigh-ins are included in the program during your HCG Diet to help you stay on track.
It’s strict, but simple. If you follow the plan exactly, you will lose a large amount of weight in a short amount of time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are injections better than HCG drops, HCG pellets or HCG sprays?
Injectable HCG is the only type approved by the FDA. Weight loss is an off-label use of this product. Drops, pellets and sprays are not FDA-approved and over-the-counter versions are listed as illegal on the FDA website. Homeopathic prescription versions of these products are only allowed to contain trace amounts of HCG. Essentially, diets that use non-injections don’t provide enough HCG and are semi-starvation diets.
Are the HCG injections painful?
HCG injections are painless. The needles are smaller than those used by diabetics.
Can I exercise during the HCG diet?
Exercise during the HCG diet is not recommended. Muscles require more calories during exercise than the HCG program provides and you will become fatigued quickly. You may exercise as much as you like on the Maintenance Diet.
Can I use weight loss supplements with the HCG Diet?
Appetite suppressants, amphetamines and water pills are unnecessary during the Real HCG Diet. Diets with non-injection versions of HCG are forced to use these medications because they don’t provide sufficient HCG to combat hunger and fatigue.
Should I take vitamins with the HCG Diet?
We recommend inexpensive over the counter potassium and Vitamin D supplements. Multivitamins, fish oils, etc should be avoided because they contain sugars, starches and fats that will hamper your results. Vitamin deficiencies take longer to develop than the short duration of this diet.
How many times can I do the HCG Diet?
The HCG Diet can be repeated more than once especially if your goal is to lose 30 pounds or more. After your first round of the HCG Diet you would go on the Maintenance Diet for at least 3 weeks, then start your second round.
Will the weight stay off after the HCG Diet?
The weight will stay off so long as you do not eat more calories than you burn. No short-term diet can produce long-term weight loss, but it will give you a huge jump start and motivate you to adopt healthy eating habits that will allow you to keep the weight off permanently. The Maintenance Diet is designed to help you make this transition. The rest is up to you.
